What is the easiest way to generate content for your site?
Holiday related material is a drop dead simple way to have fresh content that makes sense, spurs action, and when done right, people enjoy.
Tie it to your audience's interest
Think about your business, what it does for your customers, and how that relates to the holiday. Christmas is a good time to give a great discount or simply express well wishes for the holiday. Every message does need to have a purpose but that purpose doesn't necessarily have to be selling.
Schedule posts for efficiency
You don't have to be slaving away like Bob Cratchit on Christmas Eve. You can use the post scheduling feature to automatically set your post to publish.
Just be keen on when to set it for. Most people aren't going to be doing business as usual on Christmas Eve. They will be preparing for Christmas, doing last minute shopping, etc. So the day prior (Dec. 23) is the last good day to post your Christmas message.
If your message is not just content but includes a call to action, you'll need to set it a week or more before the holiday. That ensures that people act then and don't say “I'll get to this after the holiday…” Because they almost never do.
Do you have to be “in the mood” to write?
It helps to think of the holiday spirit but you don't have to wait for the season. If you absolutely have to be in the season, do it as early as possible like November first.
The local radio station dedicated to Christmas music starts on the first. Since the Christmas retail season starts then too, you should be able to pick up a carton of egg nog. Turn on some Christmas music, pour a glass of egg nog and hit the keyboard.
The thing is, you will undoubtedly be inspired after the post you scheduled has been finished. That's just Murphy's law and it doesn't mean you go back and change what you have. Use that inspiration to get next year's post started (or even finished and scheduled) early.
