Why can’t I just be like the masses? Blissfully ignorant of the benefits of owning a business. Having something you know you did indeed build, nurture, and watch it grow. There are times when it is not so easy to think about the benefits.
For most people the biggest benefit is knowing you have taken responsibility for your own welfare and that of your family. Furthermore, it’s knowing that what you do and have built allows others to provide for themselves and their families. It is different for everyone
The thoughts of the benefits often get mired down by the responsibilities. It’s not easy, else everyone would be doing it! People, like water naturally follow the path of least resistance. It’s the rare and strange fish that swims upstream in defiance of conventional “wisdom.” Even salmon know there’s a high rate of failure but they continue on because failure is not an option.
When I get into a funk, two quotes can usually bring me out of it because I find true wisdom in both.
The first is historical and the second a bit more modern: “Fortes fortuna iuvat” which translates to “Fortune favors the brave” ~ Roman historian Titus Livius. There is an undeniable truth in those words that can be seen in every instance of success.
While the second helps me through the hard work when others are “enjoying life” and living paycheck to paycheck complaining about the “haves”: “Live like no one else, so you can live like no one else” ~ Dave Ramsey. There is an end goal that seems to move further away sometimes. But I know that everything I’ve done will pay off in time.
Do you have days like this? What gets you out of it?
